Homeroom Update:

Due to community need, Session 3 (starting NOV 9, 2020) of OMSI Homeroom is currently full. However, we have added Session 4 (starting NOV 16, 2020) that has a handful of open spots.

If you are interested in registering for Session 3 of Homeroom, please consider registering for Session 4 or complete our waitlist form—especially if you are part of an underserved community or have financial need. We are working very quickly to gain funding for this essential program and open up additional spaces.

Serving the Community

Keeping schools closed and initiating online learning will help limit the spread of COVID-19; however, it also presents a significant challenge for students from underserved communities, single-parent households, and working families.

With state approval, we developed OMSI Homeroom to inspire students and support families as their classrooms transition to a virtual format.

Three four-week sessions are available for grades K–8, offering different science-based experiences with programming tailored to match school curriculum, grade, and interests.

The Homeroom Experience

OMSI educators will support your student’s distance learning needs while providing STEM-based enrichment activities and social development opportunities in stable small grade-based groups. Students’ health and safety will be prioritized in a structured and physically distanced environment.

After ensuring successful completion of school-based digital coursework and assignments, OMSI educators will inspire and captivate students with fun science labs, demonstrations, experiments, and design challenges that ignite imaginations and create confident problem solvers.

Financial Discounts

Thanks to the generous support of corporate sponsors and individual donors, our goal is to offer discounts of 50% to 90% for up to two-thirds of OMSI Homeroom students. We are hopeful this will help serve families who have limited options during this time.

OMSI Educators

OMSI has provided Emergency Childcare and summer camps since March, when COVID-19 shut down schools. Our educators are experienced classroom teachers and informal education professionals who bring science to life while connecting students to the future of STEAM opportunities.

Health and Safety

To help protect the community, staff and students ages five (5) and older are required to wear a face covering. OMSI staff follows safety protocols established by the Oregon Health Authority, including a daily health screening, cleaning, social distancing, and stable small groups of 10.
