OMSI’s 9th Annual Studio Ghibli Film Fest Opens January 12!

[PORTLAND, Ore – December 27, 2023] – Portland audiences will have the opportunity to experience twenty extraordinary adventures from one of the most acclaimed animation studios in the world at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry’s (OMSI) annual Studio Ghibli Film Festival. Running January 12–February 25, 2024, the festival includes many popular favorites such as: My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and Hayao Miyazaki’s newest film, The Boy and the Heron.
This year’s festival includes daily screenings, special guest speakers, and an Opening Night celebration focused on the 40th anniversary of Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
Special guests will give short introductions before several of this year’s Studio Ghibli films:
● January 25: Dr. Patrick Terry, Portland State University, will introduce Only Yesterday
● January 31: Dr. Dana Mirsalis, Pacific University, will introduce Spirited Away
● February 7: Dr. Robert Ribera, Portland State University, will introduce A Wind Rises
For more than 30 years, Japan’s Studio Ghibli has created some of the most revered and beloved animated works and characters and established itself as one of the world’s finest producers of animated motion pictures in the world. With a reputation for lush visuals, attention to detail and epic storytelling, Studio Ghibli creates intelligent, poetic, often fanciful films that embrace family, community and a deep concern for the environment.
OMSI, in partnership with distributor GKIDS, is proud to offer the Studio Ghibli catalog to local audiences at its Empirical Theater, the largest movie screen in Portland.
Tickets for all festival screenings are available at $8.00 for adults, $6.50 for youth, and $7.00 for seniors. OMSI Members receive a discount on individual tickets and group discounts are also available.
