FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) presents the inaugural Oregon Science Festival September 11-September 17, bringing together individuals, families, and all lifelong learners to celebrate the importance of science as a force vital to our local culture, education, and economy.

The Oregon Science Festival expands on the former Portland Mini Maker Faire with new partners, offerings, and collaborations with weekday events throughout the Portland metro area. From Monday, September 11 through Thursday, September 15, corporate and community partners, including TinkerCamp, OHSU, PSU, and more, will bring STEAM experimentation, learning, and delight to the community. The festival will showcase the area’s most groundbreaking innovators with activities ranging from laser cutting workshops to research center tours.

The week-long festival culminates in the first Science Extravaganza, Saturday, September 16, and Sunday, September 17, at OMSI. The Extravaganza features more than 45 partner booths, hourly science demonstrations with OMSI educators, plus events and workshops across the museum. Food carts will also be on site for visitors. Prehistoric trivia, an FX makeup workshop, a lecture on combating Portland’s heat, a showing of the documentary Keiko: The Untold Story of the Star of Free Willy — all this and so much more awaits families, students, and explorers of all ages.

“This new Oregon Science Festival celebrates science, technology, engineering, art, and math as central elements of our region,” said Melony Beaird, Director of Events at OMSI. “We’re so excited to welcome so many new and returning partners, innovators, and science enthusiasts to gather and spend a week celebrating science in our community.”
