Explore the Physics of Space Science
The Lab redesign features explorations of physics concepts through different themes. The first rotating theme brings together OMSI’s experience in science learning, Project LEDO’s community-centered and culturally-responsive perspective, and Boeing’s aerospace expertise to create an experience centering the physics of space science.
Space inspires wonder, imagination, and curiosity to ask questions and seek knowledge about how the universe works, and physics helps us answer those questions.
How can we see far away objects? How do lenses, mirrors, and light work together?
What does a robot need to do its job on Mars? How does gravity impact the design of a robot?
Who are the people driving change and innovation in space science? How are they building an inclusive and collaborative future for the field?

The Physics Lab is open 10am-5pm every day that OMSI is open.
Often there are volunteers and staff in the lab. However, everyone can still come in and explore physics phenomena anytime the lab is open.
Some activities like the plasma tube or Van de Graaf generator use electricity and can give a small shock. There are signs that will let you know before you explore. If you have a medical device implant, you may want to avoid using these activities.
The Physics Lab is open to guests of all ages.
