For over 75 years, OMSI's educational programs have introduced millions of people to the wonders of our world. Your support provides opportunities for many to experience science and technology first hand, both now and in the future.
Founded in 1944, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) helps everyone discover their love for science. Without diverse scientific thinkers, decisions can be uninformed, and fears—not facts—motivate actions.
We have a vision that OMSI, collaborating with partners, will ignite an education transformation at the intersection of science, technology and design that spreads opportunities across the Northwest.
Through hundreds of exciting hands-on exhibits, engaging lab activities, camps, classes, and outreach programs that stretch across the region, OMSI empowers a scientifically-literate and helps explore the connections between the big wide world and our individual impact.
Building a Stronger Oregon
OMSI is an important cultural anchor, not just for Portland, but for the state and region. The idea for OMSI began more than 100 years ago, when a group of local science enthusiasts created a collection of rocks and minerals for public display.
OMSI provides 362 days of programming a year, camps in Fossil and Newport that leverage resources across Oregon and five Northwest states, adult programming 6 nights a month—not to mention professional development programs for educators who reach the youngest preschool scientists to advanced PhD researchers.
Other Ways to Support OMSI
OMSI is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors. Donor information includes contact information, donation and payment details, planned giving details, and any other personal information we may obtain through our relationship with them. We will never trade, share or sell donor contact information to a third party who is not working on behalf of museum-related business nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations, unless given express permission by the donor.
To acknowledge donors, OMSI may publish donor names in print or online, including in an annual listing of donors by total gift level in the Annual Report. Any donor may opt out of such listing by informing development staff of their wishes. All requests by donors for anonymity will be honored, except to the extent required by law.
