Discover Exquisite Creatures Revealed, a new and expanded exhibition of work from Oregon-based artist and naturalist Christopher Marley, opening at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Marley’s intricate artworks feature rare organisms from around the world in stunning displays like you’ve never seen before. His lasting tributes to the profound beauty of the natural world provide an opportunity for all of us to broaden our knowledge about biodiversity and conservation in a stunning educational experience.
In his newest and largest exhibit yet, Marley will give visitors the opportunity to see a fascinating array of preserved specimens, including:
- The first leafy sea dragon every preserved whole
- A rarely seen Weedy Sea Dragon
- A 10-foot long Japanese Spider Crab, the largest species of arthropod on earth
- A reef shark, whole and preserved
- Enigmatic and beautiful deep sea spiders
- A giant Amazonian stingray
- Rare and expertly preserved orchids
Christopher Marley shares, “I’ve created Exquisite Creatures Revealed to help awaken a fresh sense of wonder and awe toward the natural world. It will be my largest and most inspiring exhibit yet with over 10,000 specimens, many never before seen. I’ve chosen OMSI, the museum I grew up loving, for my final temporary exhibition before it moves to its permanent home.”
Importantly, none of the vertebrates in the exhibit were killed for his art. Marley emphasizes ecologically friendly and sustainable collection methods and frequently collaborates with local zoos, museums, and collectors from around the world.
“We’re thrilled to host Christopher Marley’s Exquisite Creatures Revealed to bring this new and expanded exhibition to OMSI guests,” says Akiko Minaga, Vice President of Learning Experiences, at OMSI. “After hosting his last exhibition in 2019, visitors will once again be awed by art and beauty and also have space to contemplate how each of us interact with the natural world.”
Exquisite Creatures Revealed opens Saturday, October 4, 2024, and runs through February 17, 2025. The exhibition is included with the cost of museum admission. Learn more at https://omsi.edu/exhibits/exquisite-creatures-revealed/.
