The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) announced today that it has been awarded a $100,00 grant from Genentech, a leading biotechnology company. The grant will help support OMSI’s “Traveling Programs,” which brings professional educators and exciting, hands-on science programming to K-12 classrooms across Oregon.
“We’re honored Genentech selected us to receive this substantial award,” said OMSI President and CEO Nancy Stueber. “Our programs serve more than 122,000 students annually in nearly every county in Oregon. This grant will allow us to expand on our efforts to bring science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education to underserved students across the state.”
OMSI offers approximately 50 different programs to schools and communities, addressing a wide variety of topics in biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, engineering, space science, and more. Formats include an extensive educational menu of assemblies, classroom programs, a portable planetarium, and science festivals.
