PORTLAND, Ore. (Jan. 4, 2017) – Some of the world’s most beloved animated movies take the spotlight when the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) launches its third annual Studio Ghibli Film Retrospective. The Retrospective runs from January 11-21, offering 12 films and 24 screenings.

Featured in this year’s program are two titles making their Retrospective debut: the rollicking 1994 Isao Takahata release Pom Poko and the sensitive, often overlooked Yoshifumi Kondo film Whisper of the Heart. Also on exhibit are such popular favorites as Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Spirited Away.

Over the last 30 years, Japan's Studio Ghibli has established itself as one of the world's finest producers of animated motion pictures. With a reputation for lush visuals, attention to detail and epic storytelling, Studio Ghibli eschewed commercial success to create intelligent, poetic, often fanciful films that embrace family, community and a deep concern for the environment.  OMSI, in partnership with distributor GKIDS, is proud to continue the tradition of offering the Studio Ghibli catalog to Northwest audiences on the Empirical Theater’s giant screen.

Tickets for all Retrospective screenings are available at the low price of $7 for adults and $6 for youth/seniors. OMSI Members receive a discount on individual tickets and group discounts are also available. For more information, including a complete schedule of films and events, visit or call 503-797-4000.
