About OMSI

Founded in 1944, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is one of the nation’s leading science museums, a world-class tourist attraction, and an award-winning educational resource for the kid in each of us. OMSI operates the largest museum-based outdoor science education program in the country and provides traveling and community outreach programs that bring science learning opportunities to schools and community organizations in every county in Oregon. OMSI is located at 1945 SE Water Avenue, Portland, OR 97214. For general information, call 503.797.4000 or visit omsi.edu.

OMSI is celebrating the close of a fruitful season of food science with a free Harvest Festival on September 27 from 10 AM – 5 PM.

Guests of all ages are invited to enjoy the bounty of Oregon while learning about the state’s specialty crops with over 35 local farmers, producers, CSA’s, and artisan craftspeople. The festival will include live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, and hands-on activities for people of all ages. Plus, participants can get a taste of the Pacific Northwest through snacks, sweets, beer, and wine.

OMSI’s Harvest Festival will also feature a Chopped-style cooking competition where local chefs Ethan Davidsohn (Chef-Manager, Cambria) and Jenny Nguyen (Executive Chef, Reed College) will face off to prepare the ultimate harvest feast featuring Oregon crops. Judges include Jill Schmidt, Community Engagement Coordinator for James Beard Public Market and Sarah Masoni, Product and Process Development Manager for the Food Innovation Center at Oregon State University. A lucky member of the audience will also be selected to judge this event.

The most unique feature of the Harvest Festival will be the bug-based “Pestaurant” featuring Eden Pest, Alpha Ecological, and Ryan Morgan, Executive Chef of Bon Appetit at OMSI. During these demonstrations guests will learn how to turn everyday pests into a delicious and nutritious meal and even get to sample some insect dishes.
