Dive back in time to explore what lurked beneath the surface at the newest exhibit in Portland—Monsters of the Abyss: Aquatic Predators Past + Present. Meet massive mosasaurs, a spine-chilling Spinosaurus, and bizarre creatures as you travel through millions of years, witnessing the rise and fall of Earth’s most awe-inspiring aquatic creatures as well as their present-day descendants. Highlighted by amazing fossils, daily educational programming, and some unbelievable live animals, this exhibit brings guests face-to-face with the real-life monsters who defy imagination and have inspired myths and legends. You’ll have to see them to believe them.

While advanced ticket purchases are not required, we recommend purchasing your tickets online ahead of time.
Monsters of the Abyss is scheduled to be on view from October 4, 2025 through February 16, 2026. Regular hours are 9:30am-5:30pm Tuesday-Friday & Sunday. Saturday hours are 9:30am-7:00pm. Please see our What’s On Calendar for the most up-to-date information including special holiday and school break hours.
Individual visit times will vary, but most guests can anticipate spending roughly 45 minutes viewing Monsters of the Abyss. There is no time limit within the exhibit, and guests may enjoy it for as long as the museum is open.
Photography is allowed in Monsters of the Abyss.
Food or drink are not permitted in the featured exhibit hall.
Yes. Strollers are permitted inside the exhibit.
Personal mobility devices are permitted in the exhibit; however, OMSI-provided electric carts are not permitted within the exhibition.
