Yellow Submarine Sing Along
BANISH THE BLUE MEANIES AND JOIN US FOR AN ALL AGES SING ALONG TO A BEATLES CLASSIC!
Yellow Submarine, based upon a song by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, is a fantastic tale brimming with peace, love, and hope, propelled by Beatles songs, including “Eleanor Rigby,” “When I’m Sixty-Four,” “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds,” “All You Need Is Love,” and “It’s All Too Much.” When the film debuted in 1968, it was instantly recognized as a landmark achievement, revolutionizing a genre by integrating the freestyle approach of the era with innovative animation techniques.
The story takes place 80,000 leagues under the sea in Pepperland, a place where beauty, happiness, and music reign supreme. But the peaceful harmony of this unearthly paradise is shattered when the Blue Meanies invade with their army of storm bloopers, apple bonkers, snapping turtle turks, and the menacing flying glove in an attempt to stop the music and drain Pepperland of all colour and hope. So it’s The Beatles to the rescue, as our animated heroes team up with Young Fred and the Nowhere Man and journey across seven seas to free Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, make peace with the Meanies, and restore music, colour, and love to the world.

Kendall Concerts Presents The Brothers Billygoat
Doors open @ 7:30PM; Music starts @ 8:00PM | $15 tickets | Parking is free
Beer, wine, snacks and more! Concessions available for purchase at the Empirical Theater Cafe until show time.
Kendall Concerts: Music Under the Dome is a monthly planetarium concert series combining live performances with stunning visuals in riots of color, shape and movement, enveloping the audience into an adventure of the senses without ever having to leave their seat.
Spanning over a decade, the musical and visual project The Brothers Billygoat was originally conceived by David “Rowan” Klein. The stop-motion films, projected during performances, have served as templates to organize concepts surrounding sexuality, gender, mythology, fantasy, and a protective matriarchal cosmos. Each carefully hand-crafted, time lapse animation guides you through psychedelic dreamscapes intending to mend the raging heart and leave you feeling contemplative yet elated. Klein teamed up with partner Nick Woolley to complete these musical scores back in 2007, and they’ve been performing and creating ever since.
The animation project took off in Echo Park, Los Angeles, with Klein’s first 17 minute piece Dioscuri. The duo began playing local shows and eventually became involved with the Lincoln Height’s bohemian artist collective HM157. Relocating to Portland in 2009 also meant an expansion to their catalogue and The Golden Age, Sophia, Lyric, and For Lovers became milestones in the project’s evolution.
The Brothers Billygoat have captivated audiences across the country: TEDx’s auditorium, The Northwest Animation Festival, San Francisco’s Switchboard Music Fest, locally renowned music venues, dive bars, and private backyard gatherings. A recent two-year hiatus allowed the artists to record/produce the debut and 10-year anthology Auroratones, which will be self-released this fall and performed September 30th in OMSI’s Kendall Planetarium. Please join “the brothers” for an intimately mystical experience underneath the immersive 52-foot dome. Expect lasers, crystals, and shawls.
Kendall Concerts is an all ages, monthly music series. For more information please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

Science Pub Portland: Earthquakes
Induced Earthquakes: Experimenting Unintentionally
With Katie Keranen, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University
October 4, 2018 | 7-9PM; Doors Open @ 5PM | All Ages
Induced earthquakes are triggered by humans, either by injecting fluid into the ground, extracting it, or impounding it behind dams. Induced earthquakes have occurred for a century, but in the past decade have become more prevalent in locations such as Oklahoma than natural earthquakes along most plate boundaries. These earthquakes create a new hazard and bring public attention, but they also create opportunities to study earthquake processes at atypical rates. In this presentation, Dr. Keranen discusses the sudden rise in induced seismicity, the relationship to oil and gas production including wastewater disposal and hydraulic fracturing, mitigation efforts, and new scientific advances made possible by this unintended experiment.
Katie Keranen is an assistant professor at Cornell University. Keranen wants to understand how the world works, and to that end, studies earthquakes, volcanoes, and plate motion to understand deformation of the earth at slow and rapid rates. Keranen has a BS from Michigan Technological University, a PhD from Stanford University, and completed postdoctoral research with the USGS Geological Survey. Before arriving at Cornell, Keranen was an assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma, and began studying induced seismicity when her house began shaking.
