PRESENTATIONS

7:30PM | Planetarium |Autonomous Vehicles: Where Are They Driving Us and Do We Want To Go? with Jennifer Davidson and Amanda Howell, Researchers with the Urbanism Next Center at the University of Oregon. Autonomous vehicles are coming—some are even here now! But before we make way for these magical vehicles of the future, there are some critical questions we need to be asking. Whether we end up with a dystopian future or a high-tech dream world depends largely on the decisions we make today. Join us as we figure out how far into the future this is all happening and how we can start to shape the kind of future we really want.

8:15PM | Planetarium | Movie Magic: Aging Techniques with Christina Kortum, owner of Ravenous Studios. Learn how the technology and techniques have changed from the days of Back to the Future to now.

9:00PM | Planetarium | The Science Of Traveling To The Future... And Back with Ethan Siegel, Professor, Author, science communicator and Portland's favorite PhD, astrophysicist. Time travel has been one of the most enduring ideas in all of science fiction, and the notion that we could either travel to the distant future or go back to the past and change history is an idea that captivates our imaginations. But is it physically possible? And which movies do the best (and worst) jobs of portraying time travel accurately? In this talk, we'll discuss the real-life science behind the idea of time travel, including what it would take to make our wildest dreams of changing history come true. Can you really go Back to the Future? Come find out!
