2018 OMSI Sci Fi Film Fest Selection
When twenty year old transmissions of the classic '70s televison series "Galaxy Quest" are misinterpreted by an alien race as historical documents, the five former stars of the show are whisked away from a sci-fi convention by the aliens to help in their all-too-real struggle against a deadly adversary. With no script, no director and no clue about real space travel, the actors have to turn in the performances of their lives to become the heroes the aliens believe them to be.
Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, and Enrico Colantoni star in this parody of popular science fiction adventures and their legions of obsessed fans. A critical favorite upon its 1999 release -- it received a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 89% -- the film has since developed a cult following. It's particular popularity among Star Trek devotees has been acknowledged by director J. J. Abrams who considers Galaxy Quest "one of the best Star Trek movies ever made."
"An amiable comedy that simultaneously manages to spoof these popular futuristic space adventures and replicate the very elements that have made them so durable." Lawrence Van Gelder, New York Times
