What happens before an animated film reaches the big screen? The Science Behind Pixar is your chance to experience the science, technology, engineering, art, and math concepts used by artists and computer scientists who help bring Pixar's award-winning films to the big screen.

During this 45-minute long guided tour, you will get to peer through a periscope, touch a torpedo, climb in a bunk in the crew's quarters, and much more. You will learn how a submarine works and get a glimpse into how a crew of 85 lived and worked within the Blueback's hull for months at a time.

Apollo 11: First Steps
Timed to the 50th anniversary of NASA’s celebrated Apollo 11 mission, Apollo 11: First Steps Edition is a thrilling cinematic experience that showcases the real-life moments of humankind’s first steps on the Moon. In this special giant-screen edition of Todd Douglas Miller’s critically acclaimed Apollo 11 documentary, created exclusively for science centers and museum theaters, the filmmakers reconstruct the exhilarating final moments of preparation, liftoff, landing and return of this historic mission—one of humanity’s greatest achievements and the first to put men on the Moon. With a newly-discovered trove of never-before-seen 70mm footage and audio recordings, Apollo 11: First Steps Edition joins Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, the Mission Control team and millions of spectators around the world, during those momentous days and hours in 1969 when humankind took a giant leap into the future.

Australia's Great Wild North
Australia’s Great Wild North is an epic voyage through some of the wildest territory on Earth. In a land once traversed by dinosaurs, one of their deadly relatives still thrives there today: the salt water crocodile. The region’s apex predator, the salt water crocodile has inhabited the planet in almost identical form for over 200 million years.

Learn about the interesting stories of the constellations and others in this live presentation in OMSI's Kendall Planetarium. It is not just stars everyone can see in the night sky—planets, constellations, zodiac, shooting stars and satellites are all there if you know when and where to look. Navigate by the stars and discover how you can become a backyard astronomer. Topics will change monthly and graphics will be programmed accordingly. All shows are hosted and narrated live by OMSI space science educator.
