FY26 Annual Report

Expanding what is possible

At OMSI, everyone can be a scientist. That belief is at the heart of our 20-year vision: creating hands-on learning experiences that help people of all ages, backgrounds, and learning styles see themselves in STEAM and imagine what is possible.

Bringing that vision to life is something we do together. Partnership is woven through how OMSI works and what we create, bringing together different perspectives, expertise, and lived experiences to make our programs and spaces stronger and more relevant to the communities we serve.

In FY26, we took meaningful steps towards that vision while investing in what comes next. The accomplishments highlighted in this report reflect how far we have come and what we are building toward: an OMSI with greater reach, deeper connections, and more ways for learners, families, and communities across the Pacific Northwest and beyond to engage with science and shape the future.

United by Curiosity

Curiosity transcends age, background, and perspective, inviting us to ask questions, test ideas, and discover together.

Like a constellation, our community is defined not by any one point of light, but by the connections between them. OMSI fosters those connections, expanding access to transformative STEAM experiences that empower everyone to better understand our world and shape our shared future.

Our Impact

Investing in our communities

Most people think of OMSI as a museum on the Portland waterfront. But OMSI is something bigger. We engage learners through camps, embedded educators, and traveling exhibitions that bring OMSI experiences to communities far beyond Portland. At the same time, we are investing the waterfront area surrounding the Museum, working with partners to transform it into the OMSI District – a new neighborhood where science, culture, innovation, and community come together.

OMSI’s impact is regional, national, and still growing.

Over the past year, we have made strategic investments to strengthen OMSI today and build the foundation for long-term resilience and impact growth.

Nancy Stueber Natural Sciences Hall

Opened in April 2026, the Nancy Stueber Natural Sciences Hall is a permanent home for natural history, geology, and the living world. A cornerstone of our vision to inspire the next generation of changemakers, it is named in honor of Nancy Stueber, whose 20-year presidency shaped the OMSI we are today.

Camps Expansion + Climate Resilience

This year marks two milestones: 75 years of Camp Hancock and 10 years of Camp Gray. As demand for outdoor learning grows, we are investing in both camps to expand access, strengthen programs, and build climate resilience, ensuring these extraordinary places continue to inspire students for generations to come.

EXLAB + Creative Services

OMSI’s EXLAB is a full-service design and build studio creating hands-on learning experiences for OMSI and partners nationwide. Reimagined to be nimbler and more resilient, its new purpose-built fabrication facility expands what the team can create, opening new opportunities for partnerships, earned revenue, and impact across the science-learning field.

OMSI District + Waterfront Education Park

The OMSI District is a generational investment in Portland’s Central Eastside, transforming the waterfront into a vibrant, sustainable neighborhood. In partnership with Tribal and community organizations, the vision includes a waterfront education park, Center for Tribal Nations, affordable housing, childcare, green infrastructure, and greater access to the Willamette River.

Financials

Adapting to a changing landscape

Significant federal funding cuts have reshaped the landscape for science and cultural institutions across the country. OMSI has navigated these changes as we plan for the future. Over the past 18 months, we have restructured programs, diversified revenue, and made deliberate investments that strengthen our ability to adapt, sustain our work, and continue serving communities for the long term.
