How Magicians Use Mirrors in Creating Magic

About the Lecture
In the 19th century, magic was changing as fast as the development of technology and industry. There was one particular innovation that created a completely new type of magic. It was the glass mirror. We’ve heard the term “smoke & mirrors” as a way to describe deception, but it wasn’t until the late 19th century that mirrors were commonly used in magic. As the Victorians improved the glass making process which led to the creation of larger and clearer mirrors, magicians were then able to create some of the most popular modern illusions.
In this talk, Professor DR Schreiber, The Historical Conjurer (aka. Danny Schreiber) will talk about the history of the science and technology that went into these early creations, the magicians and showmen who demonstrated these illusions. and how they are used today. He will examine the process these early magic innovators took to achieve these mysteries of the modern age, as well the individuals and institutions that helped make this magic possible.

Danny Schreiber is Professor DR Schreiber, The Historical Conjurer, an award winning, Portland, OR-based, full time magician, magic historian, emcee, magic consultant, lecturer, and instructor for new magicians. His magical performances evoke the spirit of early 18th and 19th conjuring and have been enjoyed by corporate, private and public audiences around the globe for over 20 years.  He is a proud member of the Academy of Magical Arts (Magic Castle) and a member of the Society of American Magicians Portland Assembly. He is also a former cast member at Disneyland and frequent historical re-enactor.

To guarantee a seat at this event, we recommend you purchase your ticket in advance. Please show your ticket at the check-in table in front of the theater upon arrival.
We will always have tickets available at the door. They are first-come, first-served and admission will remain a suggested donation
Mission Theater offers pizza and sides, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. No outside food or drink is allowed.
The Mission Theater is wheelchair accessible. They have a ramp leading to the theater’s side entrance on 17th Avenue; just let McMenamins staff at the front door know you need ramp access.
Street parking is available in the area surrounding the theater. Some spaces may be free, while others may require payment via Parking Kitty. Note that Parking Kitty does not require payment after 7pm.
