Science Pubs are a casual lecture series located in fun venues across the region. Grab a drink and get comfy as you learn about bee swarms in The Science of Bee Swarms. Recommended for ages 10 and over.

About the lecture:

It’s no secret that honeybees are smart. They communicate by dancing and procure nature’s sweetest treat from the nectar of flowers. But there’s something else that bees are perfectly programmed for, swarming. One of their most important biological functions, swarms are often feared and misunderstood by outsiders. Join urban beekeeper Mandy Shaw for an inside look at the drama, biology, communications, and reasons why bees swarm. You’re sure to feel the buzz!

Mandy Shaw has been fascinated with bees since 2015 when a swarm of bees landed in her front yard. She balances her beekeeping practice between honoring the bees natural inclinations and using tried and true management techniques. She shares her passion for bees through continuing education and sharing her experiences with others.
