Science Pub Portland: Dueling Dinosaurs: Standing Up Against T-Rex

With Nico Spadafora, paleontologist and founder of The Fossil Team.

Mar 5, 7-9PM | Doors @ 6PM | Advance tickets recommended; $5 suggested donation

Tyrannosaurus rex is undoubtedly one of the most powerful carnivores to have ever walked the earth, but that didn’t make it invincible. In the environments that it lived in, there were many other large, dangerous, and just as terrifying dinosaurs that could make a T. rex think twice before taking a bite. What were they and what could they do to the king of the dinosaurs?

In this talk, paleontologist Nico Spadafora will take you back to the Cretaceous period to look at the other dinosaurs Tyrannosaurus Rex would have faced on a daily basis, how they interacted, and how T. rex was not always the victor in their altercations.

Nico Spadafora is a lifelong nerd for paleontology who runs an education company called The Fossil Team that he started back in 2016. He has been studying paleontology for over two decades, and really started focusing on the nitty gritty in his early teens. He dove head first into the scientific literature of paleontology and his knowledge and skills earned him an internship at the Oregon Zoo where he studied the anatomy, behaviors, and traits of elephants, lions, rhinos, and many other animals. Later he worked as a professional tracker and wilderness educator with Trackers Earth following the trails of bears, cougars, elk, and many other wild animals. He specializes in dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals like mammoths and sabertooth cats.
