ABOUT THE FILM
A high school wise guy is determined to have a day off from school, despite what the Principal thinks of that.
Tickets: $35 per person (due to the nature of the event, no dietary restrictions can be accommodated)
The Empirical Theater seats 300 guests. Due to event logistics, we sell a maximum of 250 tickets to this event so there is no need to arrive extra early to reserve a seat. Doors open at 6:15pm and we aim to begin the event promptly at 7pm.
The tasting menu that accompanies the film consists of 8 food items that average 3 bites. If you would like to purchase beverages or additional food from the Empirical Café prior to the event, please plan on arriving early. The café will be open until 8pm should you wish to get something additional during the movie.

ABOUT THE FILM
The SIGGRAPH 2019 Computer Animation Festival Traveling Show features a selection of innovative, creative animated short films and visual effects reels produced by professionals and students from around the world that were originally shown as part of the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival, a leading annual festival for the world’s most groundbreaking, accomplished, and amazing digital film creators. For 2019, the content in its original form premiered at SIGGRAPH 2019, 28 July–1 August, in Los Angeles, CA. The annual festival is a qualifying event of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Since 1999, several works originally presented in the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival have been nominated for or have received a Best Animated Short Film Oscar

Christina is a huge fan of animation, and currently serving as the Assistant to the Head of Production and Director's Assistant at LAIKA. She was the 2019 SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival Coordinator and is excited to present the local screening of the Traveling Show!

Portland ACM SIGGRAPH is a volunteer, non-profit resource for area post production professionals and students, hosting events, workshops, and screenings that highlight computer graphics/animation/stop motion and creative tech. With the news from Governor Brown that all large gatherings are cancelled for the next 8 weeks, OMSI has made the decision to reschedule What is Technology? Reprise slated for Friday, April 24th. In addition, OMSI will be closed to the public until the end of April. We hold our community's health and safety as a top priority.
The new date for What is Technology? Reprise is Friday, August 7th. If you are able to attend, please keep your current tickets and we will honor them. If you're not able to attend the new date once it is announced, please contact our concierge desk at 503.797.4000 x0 for a refund.

OMSI and the University of Oregon Portland's What is...? Conference are excited to again partner during Portland Design Week to bring a special full-dome immersive show Bella Gaia, amongst other works.
Experience: What is Technology? (Reprise) re-examines interactions and transactions among practical arts and tools, techniques and processes, moral knowledge and imagination, to navigate our ever-changing world. In a broad sense, technology can be understood as methods of intelligent inquiry and problem-solving into all domains of life.
The Harry C. Kendall Planetarium will feature a special screening of works by Kenji Williams (Beautiful Earth Project, NASA), Alfred Vendl and Martina Fröschl (Science Visualization Lab Angewandte, University of Applied Art Vienna), and Android Jones (Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum).
It is also a follow-up event for the What is Information? Conference-Experience, April 30–May 2, 2020.

Patron Drop-off Zones
Curbside drop-off zones are located along the front plaza, with easy access to the Kendall Planetarium.
Patrons who wish to use an OMSI wheelchair may request a courtesy wheelchair from the Concierge window located next to the Main Lobby. We encourage you to notify OMSI in advance at 503.797.4511 as courtesy wheelchairs are limited.
OMSI has public restrooms that are wheelchair accessible. Gendered public restrooms are located in the Kendall Planetarium hallway. Companion care and non-gender-specific restrooms are located in the Turbine Hallway.
Parking is free in either of OMSI’s designated parking lots. There are 5 wheelchair accessible parking spaces in each lot, for a total of 10 spaces.
