Join Steve Emerson as he talks about the incredible fusion of art and science during the production of LAIKA's ParaNorman (2012), the studio's critically acclaimed second animated feature. In his presentation, Steve will describe the unparalleled visual effects artistry that his team engineered on the film. This family-friendly all-ages talk will also include a Q&A. Production puppets, including Norman himself, will attend.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
STEVE EMERSON is an Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor. As a longtime LAIKA collaborator, he has contributed to all four award-winning films: Kubo and the Two Strings, The Boxtrolls, ParaNorman and Coraline. Prior to joining LAIKA, Steve spent nearly twenty years working in visual effects as an artist and technical director. He has worked on many feature films and television series including The Matrix Reloaded, Transformers, The Dark Knight, and Sliders for Universal Television. In 2017, he received the Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature for Kubo and the Two Strings. Steve has been working his magic on LAIKA’s next feature film, Missing Link, due out April 12, 2019.

The Empirical Theater seats 300 guests. Due to event logistics, we sell a maximum of 200 tickets to this event so there is no need to arrive extra early to reserve a seat. Doors open at 6:15pm and we aim to begin the event promptly at 7pm.
The tasting menu that accompanies the film consists of 8 food items that average 3 bites. If you would like to purchase beverages or additional food from the Empirical Café prior to the event, please plan on arriving early. The café will be open until 8pm should you wish to get something additional during the movie.
