Make soap from scratch to take home while learning about the awesome chemistry of soap molecules! Participants must wear clothing that completely covers their arms, legs, and feet (no sandals or open-toed shoes) as we will be working with caustic substances.
Perfect for homemade holiday gifts! Soap made on or before November 17th will be ready for use by the end of December.

Explore the wonderful world of cheese making! We’ll learn the art and science of making cow’s milk fresh mozzarella cheese in this class. Participants will sample a variety of cheeses, make their own mozzarella, and learn about several types of fresh cheeses to make at home.

Bitters demystified! Learn how to make and use bitters in this hands-on workshop. This class will cover the history and science of bitters as well as basic formulas, tools, and processes to make bitter tinctures at home. Participants will have the opportunity to do tastings of various commercial bitters brands, as well as 36+ individual tinctures, and will blend two batches of bitters to take home.

Come to OMSI and learn how buildings are designed to withstand quakes. Design, build and test your own quake proof gingerbread building. Put your tower on OMSI's shake table to see if it will survive “the Big One”!
This workshop is suggested for all ages.
Foodstuffs in this lab will include common allergens such as wheat, soy, and eggs.
Tickets are $20 per building; up to two people can work on each building.
Cider drinking is a lost American tradition, recapture it here and learn how to make your own! Participants will explore the history and science of cider, as well as learn the steps to turning a half gallon of apple juice from the store into delicious hard cider to drink at home.
